Board Observer Position
November ‘22 to November ’23
Rotorua Regional Airport (RRA), RotoruaNZ and InfraCore Limited are each searching for a candidate to sit as an observer on their Board of Directors. This is an excellent opportunity for three individuals that are looking for further self-development and exposure to a Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) Board.
This opportunity provides first-hand exposure to the role of a Board, its decision making and operations, as well as training and mentorship designed to provide the observer with essential skills that they can carry through to their own business.
Observers will learn about:
The issues confronting the organisation.
The fundamental principles of the work and function of boards.
The roles and responsibilities of board members.
Financial processes.
Other governance priorities.
The 2022 Board Observers of RRA have expressed how they found their experience being part of a CCO Board:
"I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be a Rotorua Airport Board Observer this past year. I obviously learned a lot about governance from the experienced board members and Airport staff, but also about how a council-owned asset in Rotorua functions. I have a much better appreciation now for all the work that goes in to ensure our community flourishes." – 2022 RRA Board Observer.
“My time on the Board as an observer has been a fantastic experience. I have learnt a lot about Airport operations and more importantly gained valuable experience in governance. I would recommend anyone wanting Board experience to apply for this opportunity.” – 2022 RRA Board Observer
Starting in November, Observers will participate as a Board member for 12 months in all aspects of Board work but will have no voting rights nor form part of a quorum of the Board meeting.
The Observer program is designed to be a constructive learning experience for talented business owners and leaders to learn about governance. The preferred candidates will be business owners in the Rotorua region with no prior board experience. The roles will suit someone who can contribute knowledge, experience and/or ideas to assist the organisation to achieve its key priorities.
